19 miles today. Total miles so far: 39.
Despite this trail being known for benches, none exist along the Gandy Dancer, prompting me to carry my camp chair on day 2. I quickly made the miles to Luck and had a great sandwich and coffee at Cafe Wren. The remaining miles of the Gandy were a bit rough and my feet were feeling the monotonous hard surface. Beautiful weather had brought out a more weekend walkers, and as I moved into the wooded trail sections, I met my first section hikers--hikers attempting to complete the trail in short sections, usually over the span of years. I also met Fred the dog and his two human companions, along with at least 4 or 5 other dog friends. Fred was attracted to my shady sitting spot and, I think, would have preferred to sit there with me rather than walking, but we both eventually had to move on. I encountered a large Fox snake while I wasn't paying much attention. It shook its tail at me like a rattlesnake and seemed a bit aggressive, but I passed it uneventfully. In the afternoon, the combination of sun and foot pain was getting to me, and I took more breaks than ever to rest my throbbing feet. With so few leaves out, the sun drains me even though it's not hot. I ended the day with another blister, again, right next to the tape I had applied to prevent blisters.
