Ice Age Trail, Day Ten

Monday, May 11, 2026

19.5 miles today. Total miles so far: 163.5.

I was into Weyerhauser early for a planned resupply on snacks at the gas station. Not an economical option, but the chocolate milk and burrito were great, and I still spent less than a tank of gas given current prices. I kept a good pace in the morning and watched lots of birds, including a woodcock/Timberdoodle that came into the road doing some sort of mating or intimidation dance. A local guy walking his dog passed me and reminded me to stay hydrated. I had enough signal for a few calls home, which slowed me down a bit. But most of the roads had a sandy shoulder that was easier on my feet than the pavement. I soon came to Plummer road, a surprisingly nice road with cottages, summer cabins, and a nice little free library. I've seen a lot of those on this trip, and this one was clearly well -used as a book exchange by the local community and visitors. With no benches on the road walk, is gotten out my chair a couple of times and figured out a way to strap it on top of the pack to save time assembling it for each break. I was getting tired, though, and took a longer break once reaching Round Lake Park. I then dragged myself a few more miles to the Kings Inn bar and grill for sustenance and to get water. Somehow I ended up with a few beer from someone else's dice game before making a final push to a DCA, or designated camp area for long distance Ice Age Trail hikers. But I'd forgotten to throw away my trash at the bar, which was a bummer, so I had to keep carrying it the next couple of days!
